Lionsgate is developing a new movie based on Bret Easton Ellis’ novel american psychopathand Luca Guadagnino (Challenger, Dark Wind, Bones, etc.) is set to direct.
The script for the film comes from Scott Z. Burns, and the report specifically stated that this “will not be a remake of the 2000 film, but a new adaptation of Ellis’ novel.”
Kristen Bell’s original film is a classic, adapted by director Mary Harron from a screenplay by Harron and Gina Weltner.
Lionsgate Chairman Adam Ferguson said in a statement: “We are delighted to add another elite filmmaker to our slate of upcoming films. Luca is a talented artist and a consummate visionary, able to create a new interpretation of this powerful and classic IP.
I guess they felt the story needed a new adaptation for a new generation.
american psychopath is a satirical novel that tells the life of Patrick Bateman, a wealthy and successful investment banker in Manhattan in the 1980s. Bateman’s glamorous appearance hides violent, psychopathic tendencies, and is addicted to cruel acts such as murder, torture, and sexual violence.
The story depicts his double life in high society, obsessed with materialism, designer brands, and superficial relationships while engaging in heinous behavior that seems to go unnoticed by those around him.
The story is a scathing critique of the greed, narcissism and moral failings of the Reagan-era Wall Street culture.
The Lionsgate film will be produced by Frenesy Films and executive produced by Sam Pressmanson of Edward R. Pressmanproducer of the first adaptation, produced through his company Pressman Film.
Guadagnino is currently in post-production after huntingStarring julia roberts.
