Tentai Books is a European light novel micro-publisher based in Madrid, Spain that may not be as widely recognized by giants like this Yen Press or Japanese novel club has carved out a niche for itself with a series of projects that have ventured almost exclusively into romantic comedies. This approach has earned them a loyal following of light novel lovers who appreciate their unique product. However, the recent slowdown in operations of Tiantai Books has caused doubts and concerns in the light novel community.
After a major update at the end of May detailing upcoming releases and new licenses, communication from the publisher has tapered off.
Earlier on Monday, Tentai Books owner and lead translator Alejandro De Vicente broke that relative silence with an initial statement on the company’s Discord server. This statement indicates that the business has ended and the second sister kiss Although licenses and releases have been previously announced, this volume is the publisher’s final release. The original text of the statement is reproduced as follows:
While I’ll explain it in more detail later via our website, Sister Kiss will actually be the last version we release. I plan to close this business within the next few months. For those who want to continue reading our edition, I am currently negotiating to transfer the license to another company, so please do not contact me about this! I will keep the website up, but during August/September all sales (physical and digital) will cease. For those of you who have purchased digital products through our website, I will keep it so they can still access them. For those with pending physical orders, we will issue full refunds for those purchases once all sales are terminated. Thanks!
DeVincent’s statement also mentioned ongoing negotiations to transfer the licenses to another company to ensure fans can continue to enjoy them, even though Tengtai Books will not support the distribution. Although sales will be discontinued in the coming months, we are still working to maintain access to previously purchased digital products and refund pending physical book orders.
DeVincent’s initial statement suggested exiting the publishing business entirely rather than reviving the previous temporary setback. This development is particularly poignant considering Tentai Books emerged in 2020 during the global COVID-19 pandemic, when the light novel and manga market experienced a major surge in sales and expansion.
While the end of the business is regrettable, Tengtai Books’ commitment to its customers, as evidenced by intentional maintenance of digital access and transparency of communications, reflects a level of integrity and responsibility.
Currently, the publisher houses 18 light novels from various Japanese publishers, the most notable of which is world teacher Originally published by Japan Press overlapping It is also one of the first games released by Tentai. Another key heading is How to Melt the Snow Queen’s Hearta two-volume collection, and sister kiss It became one of the upstart brand’s most popular books.
With Tiantai Books expected to release a more detailed official announcement in the near future, the initial announcement is a reminder of the unforgiving nature of the publishing world, especially as a small publisher.
