Here at The Beat, we’re celebrating Halloween for 24 hours because it’s our favorite holiday! Let’s set the tone with some Halloween soundtracks and get the party started with Soma FM’s Doomed, a collection of dark, twisted metal. Think Tool, Fields of the Nephilim, Jerry Goldsmith, Sky Burial, Faktory, etc.
What else to listen to on Halloween? Spotify created a playlist of music from songs The Beat likes, but we’re getting a little tired of these AI-generated playlists—algorithms aren’t as good as humans when it comes to DJing.
Soma-FM (our long-time favorite streaming radio station, but recommend another one!) also has a station called Dark Zone, which offers more moody dark ambient sounds… like when you’re on Ridley Scooter Altus in the special movie genre, Spell when sneaking into an abandoned spaceship in Blood, Steve Roach and more
Of course, YouTube offers many streaming stations, including a Lofi station for relaxing.
For old timers, the classic Disney record The Sounds of the Haunted Mansion is, of course, the soundtrack to every Halloween night, featuring the second most sampled scream of all time after William’s Scream.
Maybe it’s not playable because some of the content on the album is outdated, but Disney has updated it a bit with a “modern” version and some more complex sound effects that you can use.
For more OG thrills, John Carpenter’s original Halloween score will stir up some memories…or fears. It cannot be overstated that Carpenter was a true Renaissance man, capable of directing classic films while composing classic scores.
Finally, this year is our 20th anniversary and we got to celebrate it with beat favorite Amon Tobin. His Dark Jovain EP is the perfect sinister music for Halloween…or any day you want to turn into an ominous adventure.
