Like a bludger, this news came out of nowhere with seemingly zero build-up: the LEGO Harry Potter Collection, combining LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and LEGO Harry Potter: 5- The 8th Grade in One Magic Pack will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles on October 8th.
Developer Double Eleven is working on a remake. Founded in 2009, there’s a good chance you haven’t heard of them, and that’s because of their reputation as a studio that ports other people’s games. For example, they worked with Rockstar San Diego on last year’s port of Red Dead Redemption.
This will actually be the third re-release/remaster of the series. The first game was released in 2010, and Years 5-7 was released a year later in 2011. Released on Xbox One. Double Eleven participated in the production of both versions.
This new version promises several enhancements, including native 4K resolution and 60FPS. Keep in mind that the PS4 version of Collection actually runs at 60FPS. Upgraded shadow maps and Dualsense’s tactile feedback support were also mentioned.
If you already own the LEGO Harry Potter set, you won’t be able to get the new version for free, but if you want to upgrade, you’ll get an undisclosed discount.
The LEGO Harry Potter game is awesome and easily one of the best LEGO games ever made. Their retellings of books and movies through wordless LEGO characters are charming and often hilarious.
However, this remake feels lazy and pointless. The game is already running great and ready to go. Even the trailer feels cheap and the background music is terrible.
In other Harry Potter news, Quidditch Champions is set to be released on Watch tomorrow! Oh my god. It had to rewrite the Quidditch rules because they made no sense in a real sports context. It’s also free for PSN subscribers.
