There are currently two main companies in the venue management field: Legends-ASM Global and Oak View Group (OVG).
Legends has completed its acquisition of ASM Global following a nine-month review by the Department of Justice and the imposition of a $3.5 million civil penalty.
ASM Global manages more than 350 venues, a business that Legends has never been involved in before. Caesars Superdome Convention Center in New Orleans; Target Center in Minneapolis; and Accor Stadium in Sydney.
The portfolio also includes convention centers around the world, including Albany Capital Center; Brisbane Convention Center; Colorado Convention Center; David L. Lawrence Convention Center; Duke Energy Convention Center; Greater Columbus Convention Center, among others.
For now, ASM Global will continue to operate under its current name.
The battle between ASM and OVG is ongoing
OVG’s portfolio includes 400 venues with more than $5 billion in construction under construction. OVG and ASM have often fought over management of the same convention centers, with one of the most contentious battles taking place at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center.
After a competitive bidding process, OVG replaced the ASM at McCormick, North America’s largest convention center.
Founded in 2008, Legends provides venue planning and project management, premium sales, sponsorship, hospitality and merchandising services to many sports, entertainment and attractions brands. Among them is Real Madrid. Sophie Stadium. One observatory for the world. Dallas Cowboys. Barcelona Football Club. University of Notre Dame. New York Yankees. Ryder Cup. It also partners with leagues and organizations such as the NFL, MLB, NASCAR, PGA of America and FIFA World Cup.
