Some of the staff behind Rockstar’s L.A. Noir are working on a spiritual sequel to the crime thriller.
UPDATE: The developers of Sowden House have issued a statement explaining what the project entails.
As one eagle-eyed detective discovered on the LA Noire subreddit, an Australian musician named Freyja Garbett posted on Instagram that she was working on a new video game.
Both articles now appear to have been deleted, although I did manage to take a screenshot of one of the articles. It appears that Freya may have revealed more information than she should have and therefore had to delete the posts.
The clip is a band playing jazz music that wouldn’t look out of place in “L.A. Noir.”
“From the creators of L.A. Noire comes Sowden House, a psychological thriller set in 1940s Los Angeles that will make you question your own sanity,” Freja Gabbert ( Freyja Garbett) wrote. “This project is huge, but it’s still showing and unfolding to me. I never thought I’d be writing for a video game, but I’m grateful for the opportunity!”
The name is a reference to the real-life house that was the residence of Dr. George Hodel, who was accused by his daughter of murdering Elizabeth Short, aka the Black Dahlia. Of course, The Black Dahlia features heavily in L.A. Noire, which is why fans are speculating that the new game could be a spiritual successor. It seems unlikely that this will be a true sequel, as Rockstar still owns the rights to L.A. Noir and Team Bundy no longer exists.
L.A. Noir is an IP I’d love to see return, but Rockstar doesn’t seem interested in doing anything with it. If this is some sort of spiritual successor to what the folks at Black-ish have done, then I’m excited!
