A new wave of platform combining blockchain technology with Christian practice is attracting increasing attention from religious institutions, including the Vatican.

Three projects (Holydeeds, Kyvo and Optio) are at the forefront of what some call “FaithTech”: a movement that uses decentralized technology to reimagine how believers experience, share and support their beliefs in the digital age.

From digital replicas of sacred objects to anonymous, boundless tithe systems, these platforms are reshaping spiritual engagement in ways that challenge traditional and technological industry norms.

    What is FaithTech?

FaithTech refers to the use of blockchain and decentralized technologies to support religious practices. Although it remains an emerging category, recent developments suggest it is gaining attention in the Christian community.

Holydeeds is building what it describes as “digital relics,” an online archive of verified religious artifacts and portraits that can be accessed through blockchain authentication. The platform provides immersive artistic experiences and digital representations of objects often locked in churches or museums, allowing more viewers to interact with them in new formats.

Meanwhile, Kyvo focuses on faith-based financial tools. Users can use custom digital wallets to send products, access religious content, and participate in virtual worship spaces. It aims to provide an alternative to mainstream financial applications tailored to the needs and values of the Christian community around the world.

Optio is the third round of the ecosystem, used as the infrastructure layer. It focuses on privacy and decentralization, enabling developers and ministries to create applications that align with faith without relying on traditional cloud services or centralized platforms.

    Why is this important?

FaithTech represents a new intersection of religion and technology, a challenging approach to participation and supervision. A key innovation is the ability to authenticate religious artifacts digitally and potentially reduce reliance on centralized authorities such as the Vatican.

For communities in remote or constrained areas, platforms such as Kyvo and Optio offer alternative ways to connect with religious services and contribute financially without intermediaries.

Although no formal statement has been issued, sources confirmed that the Vatican has been aware of these platforms and has been monitoring developments. The path to holiness is reportedly being discussed, especially in early discussions with some of the Vatican initiatives.

    What’s next for FaithTech?

Developers plan to expand their products with features such as AI-generated spiritual content, virtual pilgrimage experiences, and enhanced privacy tools.

HolyDeeds aims to introduce holographic events to deepen virtual engagement, Optio is expanding its toolkit to broaden developers to build faith-based applications using secure communication and anonymous engagement capabilities, while Kyvo is exploring partnerships with religious groups in underserved areas.

With the Vatican interest and the continued development of these tools, FaithTech may remain an area of active exploration in the coming years.
