Chandor kicked off the demo, joking that “it’s like an old gangster movie, basically a classic ride, but obviously with a little bit of a Marvel twist. It’s not a peachy Craven.” You don’t. You have to be brutal with Kraven.
He added of the December 13 release: “It’s not just about Kraven. We do get a chance to delve into a Marvel character in a really cool way,” he said. “We wanted to take the spirit of these characters that fans want and bring that to the screen in a new way… We went for a tonal balance that I think myself as a storyteller and The director, I know the actors in every show and we don’t break the fourth wall and we believe the story as if it really happened.
When talking about the movie’s R-rating, he shared a desire to be more mature based on the comics. Very beautiful, very intense. When the studio gave us the opportunity to see if we wanted to do it as R[-rated] Movie, we were like, yeah,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity. It opens up some really intense grindhouse stuff on the one hand, and then some really intense character stuff on the other.
When casting Taylor-Johnson, the director pointed out that it was a real challenge. “To find an actor who has the ability to stand head-to-head with a lot of the other actors in the movie, who can also maintain a great performance from an acting standpoint, but also be physically able to move in a way, that’s what An animalistic dance,” he said. “He was born to play Kraven.”
After appearing on stage to loud cheers, Johnson spoke of Craven’s “iconic image,” particularly his physical attributes. “It’s always fun to play a villain, and I think it has a lot more depth and complexity. He’s real. He’s not an alien or a VFX monster. He’s a man who chooses to be a hunter, a killer. I I think there are many layers to this,” he noted. “Kraven was a hunter, not a poacher, and as every great hunter knows, sometimes you have to cull the herd to maintain order. Once you start applying that to humans, then It’s going to be a very dark story.
In the film’s opening sequence, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven is being transported to prison. There, Craven received a warm welcome, with other prisoners banging on the cage from above, and then he met his fellow inmates, who noticed that the last one had only been there for a month, and Craven promised that he would only Stay there for a few days. This leads to an intense fight sequence in which Kraviv viciously destroys the entire room before moving the fight to the corridor outside, where he eventually breaks free, scales the prison walls, and escapes across the tundra. Into the snow wall.
A second clip shows Craven arming himself in a house in the woods, preparing to chase down some men with guns blazing at wildlife. On this hunt, he uses a bear trap, as well as a swinging log covered in spikes, to dislodge an enemy – all before a helicopter chases him from above.
