Erikawa Education Foundation announces this year’s scholarship qualifications

According to the foundation’s website, the scholarships are designed to ensure:
Students with excellent academic performance and motivation to study do not have to give up studying in high school or college because of the financial difficulties of single-parent families, so that they can concentrate on their studies after entering college.
Junior high school students and high school students will receive 50,000 yen per month and 600,000 yen per year (approximately US$323.05 and US$3876.60, respectively). College students will receive 60,000 yen per month and 720,000 yen per year (approximately $387.66 and $4,651.91 respectively). Only five applicants per educational level (i.e. junior high school, high school, university) will receive the scholarship.

If students meet certain criteria (such as grades), they will continue to receive the scholarship. Applicants are required to submit essays, letters of recommendation and proof of income. Once a student receives a scholarship, they do not need to repay it.

Applications for the Erikawa Education Foundation Scholarship will begin on March 17 and will last until May 15. All applicants must have Japanese citizenship and be members of a single-parent household.
