
if you think anime new york This is your only chance to meet Japan’s major manga creators, American Kodansha There’s a huge surprise coming this October, as the publisher has announced a month-long pop-up event called Kodanshakan Setting up shop in New York City, fans and some of the most popular authors published by Kodansha will be able to interact outside the constraints of typical anime conventions.
Fans will be greeted by a massive comic bookshelf entrance – a gateway to galleries, cafes, lounges and a robust comic library. Kodansha will also provide a space for fans to communicate, create and celebrate the stories they love. From interactive exhibits and workshops to date nights and film screenings, this pop-up is the perfect place for comics lovers.
The month-long programming includes a diverse range of events such as the Late Late Challenge, live discussions, trivia nights, screenings of fan-favorite films and more Akira, blue lock, Ghost in the Shell, and blame!And the fun-filled “Speed Dating” activity allows fans to find the comic book lover that suits them best. Four major comic book creators will also make a rare appearance in the United States for Q&A sessions and signings: Shuzo Oshima (flower of sin), Yamaguchi Tsubasa (blue period), Makoto Yukimura (Vinland Legends), and Shirahama Seagull (witch hat studio).
The pop-up will also feature two photo booths dedicated to showcasing fan favorites Akira and attack on titanfans will be able to don Kaneda’s iconic jacket and goggles, hop on a stationary Akira bike and pose in a four-shot sequence against a projected anime backdrop, while Attack on Titan fans will be able to Step into a real-life Attack on Titan siege model. This scale model lets fans become Titans as they reach over walls and grab onto little figures made of candy or chocolate to act out scenes as the moment is captured on film.
More details about admission and programming will be released shortly before the event kicks off on October 4. Kodansha is located at 45 Grand Street, Soho, New York City, open every Wednesday to Sunday from 12 noon to 9 pm.
