Kevin Smith Recently announced his 1999 religious comedy dogma It will be re-released in theaters and will also be released on Blu-ray.
Smith said he would be touring with a copy of the film next year after it was rescued from years of limbo, and the film’s new owner immediately contacted Smith to discuss a new Blu-ray, and re-release the film in 2025.
It has not been revealed who acquired the rights to the film. Smith told The Hashtag Show in a recent interview:
“The movie was bought from someone who had owned it for years and stuff. We had a meeting with the company that bought it a few months ago. They said, ‘Would you be interested in re-releasing it and touring it as a movie?’ “I said, ‘100 percent, are you kidding me? Visiting a movie that someone I know loves and it’s sentimental and nostalgic? We’ll clean it up.’
Dogma, Smith’s fourth feature film, is a satirical fantasy comedy that explores themes of faith, religion and morality through irreverent humor.
The story follows two fallen angels, Loki (Matt Damon) and Bartleby (Ben Affleck), they were expelled from heaven and sought to return by exploiting loopholes in Catholic doctrine. However, if they succeed, they will destroy all existence.
To stop them, an unlikely group of heroes gather together, including a reluctant abortion clinic worker named Bethany (Linda Fiorentino), the last descendant of the lineage of Christ, and two prophets, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith).
Its controversial themes, particularly regarding Catholicism, sparked debate, but it cemented its status as a cult classic.
