Fans have had plenty of rumors over the years speculating on when we might see the Marvel character Nova join the cast. Now we finally have confirmation that the Nova project is officially underway, and Marvel president Kevin Feige has given us a timeline of what we can expect from the series.
Feige was sitting next to ComicBook, and when he was asked about Nova, he responded, “It’s happening, it’s coming together. Richard Ryder, yeah.” Then when asked if it would end with When presented as a movie or show, Feige said, “A show, yeah, yeah.”
As for when the project will actually hit the small screen, that’s still a while away, as Feige said, “It’s still going to be three or four years.”
Previously, through an interview with Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s head of streaming media, animation and television, we learned that the Nova project is under development. He said:
“We love Nova. We’re in the early stages of development on Nova. We have a new system behind the scenes at Marvel Studios. We’re more of a traditional studio now. We’re developing more content than we’re actually producing.
There are plans to develop Nova. I also like Nova. I also like Rich Knight. I hope it makes it to the screen. The world is always chaotic. There’s always something going on. You have to conjure these things up to make them happen, but I’d love to see Nova perform one day.
Nova was once included in the early draft Avengers: Infinity WarBut despite efforts by the film’s screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely to include him, he was ultimately not included.
Fans were also surprised that he didn’t appear in any of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, since the Nova Corps was included and interacted with the Guardians a lot throughout the comics.
In an interview with James Gunn, he explained why he never included Richard Ryder in his iteration of the Nova Corps.
“Yeah, I’ve never cast Richard Rider in anything. His character was too big, and he looked too…I didn’t want to…from the very beginning, when I came on Guardians of the Galaxy , I don’t want to do that.
I wanted to own one so that he could be surrounded by this alien world. And then we gradually realize that all of these characters are the only ones of their kind, they’re the only humans they have, you know?
But now he’s finally on his way. Are you excited about the Nova series? Who do you think is best suited to play this role?
