The following interview has been edited for clarity and content.
Adam Westcott: For kensuke ushio, I’ll start with my most selfish question. I’m a fan of Number Girl Bloodthirsty Butcher. What memories do you have of collaboration? Hisako Tabuchi As part of Lama?
Ushio Kensuke: She is like a samurai. She takes care of the guitar like a katana. She is also very friendly. She would ask, “Can you try this?” and play “DADADAN” on her guitar. marvelous.
Westcott: This is really cool.
Tide tail: I look up to her. Also, if you listen this chainsaw man soundtrackthat’s her playing the guitar.
Westcott: The next question was asked by Hiroyuki Aoi. You are the producer of the 2019 animated adaptation Immortal Bladewhich included the composer Eiko Ishibashi (Appeared in the movie last year evil does not exist.) Did you play a role in getting Ishibashi involved in the project? What do you think of her music?
Hiroyuki Aoi: Immortal Blade? Do you know the Japanese title?
Westcott: Unlimited ten people.
Areas of interest: Ah ha, I see. Sorry, I wasn’t really involved.
Tide tail: I have great respect for Eiko Ishibashi. She has worked not only on animations but also on critically acclaimed live-action films such as drive my car. so she Immortal Blade?
Westcott: Yes. The director is also very interesting…he directed texnorlitz and Steins;Gate Go back in time. Hamasaki Hiroshi.
Areas of interest: Oh, Hamasaki!
Tide tail: It’s not really an interview, more like a chat.
Westcott: [Gestures towards the GKIDS and AnimeNYC representatives] I know that’s not what they want, but…
[Everybody laughs]
Tide tail: No, it’s okay. Very relaxing.
Westcott: Another question for Ushio: Cartoonist taste, DaxingxuanOriginally an assistant chainsaw man artist Tatsuki Fujimoto. have you chainsaw man Keep in mind when composing tasteor did you try to put it out of your mind?
Tide tail: I didn’t think about it chainsaw man Not at all. While I’m working on one project, I’m thinking about another, and it’s a bit rude to incorporate parts of the latter, right? I just treat them as different projects.
Westcott: I have another question for Ushio. exist taste During the panel earlier today, you discussed the use of editing and mixing in soundtracks. taste There are so many conflicting elements – aliens, spirits and different worlds occupying the same place. When it came time to bring these genres together, did you consider using music to make these disparate parts cohere? Or do you work hard to make sure those parts stand out?
Tide tail: The sound director and I discussed indie music in terms of aliens and ghosts. But it’s also a bit like helping a dress-up doll change its clothes. Like, if I add this dress, it becomes an alien aspect. But if I take it out and put it on, it turns into something ghostly. So I do a lot of mixing and matching.
