cartoonist: Julia Gfrörs
Publisher: Fantagraphics Books
Publication date: February 2025
As the name suggests, cartoonist Julia Gfrörs The short comics she made between 2010 and 2022 have compiled into a new hardcover book called The world in the world. There are 39 pieces in this book, ranging in length from one page to dozens of them. The stories in this book differ in theme and tone, but the whole process is about repetitive ideas of violence and pornism, with deep respect for the indescribable nature of existence and life or perhaps perhaps curious about – or perhaps.
Overall, this is also a set of comics, which are borrowed with the help of time. and location. The setting and period of these stories range from the Middle Ages to the modern times to the retelling of the story of Edgar Allen Poe, Drew Suffered akira– Revelation (see the preview page below). We have written a lot about Gfrörer’s work on this website, including the quotes that appear in this book about his dust-proof jacket: “Gfrörer’s story is combined with an elusive mood of reality and prophecy, all of which suggest something we cannot fully conceive and emotionally understand.”
The above was written by the former beating reviewer John VII About Gfrörer’s 2020 book, Vision, I’m here to bring it up because I think that this emotion applies to these stories, as well as a poetic and well-described way to describe the feeling from the beginning. I think the second part of this book is probably the most correct Dark Ages, The mysterious ending felt so poignant and familiar, and actually gave me the chicken skin. The story follows a (seemingly) prehistoric couple who frolic, mating and traipse into a cave where the man exudes a gap and falls into an indistinguishable but long period of time. Eventually, he is trapped, but afraid to enter the sun, where his vision becomes a blurred figure that feels like the vulnerability of normal life.
This story doesn’t exactly indicate everything that appears in the book, but I do think it comes with ideas and questions that will never be out of reach in these pages. It has an out-of-time haze powered by Gfrörer Rich and Foodmome cartooning. This is also a story of living at a familiar crossroads The world in the worldgender, danger, love and death. Again, these are not the only ideas in this book, but they appear repeatedly.
And I think it is important to appear early, like the statement or statement of intention in the paper, because it shows another powerful quality of the book, which is the order in which the story is sorted out. The order of works here creates a natural flow that allows the reader to guide the reader well, which makes it a readable book. I found myself wanting to spend a lot of time here on every story, but was also forced to go to the next job. And, orders feel thoughtful and complex, not wrapped by the dates that create fragments or even story content. Like such good mix tape, the process from story to story determines the order.
Comprehensive, The world in the world It’s a great collection. The artwork is complex and shocking, and these ideas offer incredible questions throughout the process (although never so deceiving themselves, they lose their ability to be interesting or surprising), and the sorting of the work makes for a meaningful, complete reading experience. I highly recommend this book.
