Actor David Howard Thornton, who plays Art the Clown in the horror franchise, says he’s set to play another killer clown in the future: none other than DC’s Joker.
Thornton told GamesRadar that the Joker is his all-time favorite villain and that he “hopes to play the character himself one day.” He went on to say that he hopes DC Studios co-boss James Gunn “gives me a chance” to play the Joker because Thornton believes he can “do a lot of fun things with him.”
Over the years, the Joker has been played by the likes of Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix. The Terror series is known for its extreme and relentless gore, and while DC’s Joker isn’t necessarily that sadistic, it would certainly be fun to see Thornton try.
Thornton said he has never played a clown, but he used the character as inspiration for The Art of the Clown. He also reprized roles such as Jason, Pinhead, Freddy Krueger, Chucky and Jigsaw. “I think the art is a fusion of all the horror icons that came before him,” he said.
“The Terror 3” is the latest entry in the series from writer-director Damien Leone and will premiere this Friday (October 11). According to Deadline, the film’s domestic opening weekend is expected to be $11 million, which, if realized, would boost the release of Joker: Folie.
In other Art of the Clown news, the character is now featured in Call of Duty’s new Halloween update — and he’s scary.
