Jenna Ortega appeared on the red carpet at the world premiere of the 81st Venice International Film Festival Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Wednesday.
Ortega stars alongside her co-stars Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara (who all appeared in the 1988 original), as well as returning director Tim Burton.
In the new film, set 36 years after the original, “After the unexpected death of Charles Dietz, the Dietz family returns home to Winter River. When Lydia (Ryder)’s rebellious daughter Astrid (O. Lydia’s (Ryder) life is turned upside down when she discovers a mysterious model of a town in her attic, causing a portal to the afterlife to unexpectedly open, freeing Betelgeuse (Keaton).
During a press conference at the festival, Ortega told reporters, “I just wanted to be in the corner and focus on my thing and make sure I didn’t copy the work of Winona, who was lovely at the time.”
Initial reviews of the festival have been positive; hollywood reporter Wrote: “The brisk pace, rollicking energy and constant laugh-out-loud moments hint at the joy Burton seems to have found in revisiting this world, and for anyone who enjoyed the first film, it’s infectious . This also applies to the actors, who are all about dizzying madness.
Burton reportedly said he felt “reinvigorated” by the film after being “a little disillusioned with the film industry.” [I sort] Lost myself.
The Warner Bros. film, which opens in theaters on September 6, is expected to gross as much as $80 million at the box office.
