The first Marvel Legends livestream of the year started off with some funky technical difficulties that showed us all how this livestream is going to be live, and not just in case you didn’t know already. But that doesn’t matter when you’re showing off a lot of cool stuff. I don’t pay much attention to Legend rumors, so this may be old news to everyone but me, but I’m enjoying the new footage as it’s uploaded.
The first new reveal is my personal favorite, as I’m a big fan of Jean Gray from the first X-Factor and X-Terminator. She has a super articulated body and I like that they represent a few different styles of her hood. Judging by the photos, the TK Explosion Effect is a small but versatile piece, although it looks like you’ll need to stick it on a poster on the hooded head. I just love these faces and the inkjet. She is a Target exclusive vintage card that will be available in Spring 2025.
Next, they closed out the set with No Way Home Electro. I think he looks great on all the pedals, I just wish he had a non-powered head. He’s also in the luxury price range, releasing at 34.99, so it feels like he should have this. He will be available for pre-order on January 30, 2025 at Pulse and participating retailers for the spring release.
Next up is the new style of figure, the Max figure. This Spider-Man is all new, with enhanced joints and a range of accessories. I’m particularly impressed with the scope of the neck ball joints, since Hasbro’s ball joints have been kind of crappy lately. My impression is that this is a domestic version released by figuarts or MAFEX. Spider-Man looks good to me in these action shots, but I can’t help but focus on something they didn’t say, which is the price. Usually when I’m not told a price, it’s because I don’t like it. The overall look kind of reminds me of Eric Larson’s Spider-Man, which is cool, but I prefer John Romita’s style. He looks like he has a nice drop butt, but I wonder if he can stand up straight well because sometimes when Vanilla poses it makes them look bow-legged.
Next they showed off their comic book character Bo. Basically it’s a retro card-style package, but doesn’t recall any specific card (so no BAF), and sells for $24.99. The products will be available for pre-order starting on February 6th and will be available in the spring. ROM was shown off and he looked great with some very effective ab crunches and some bright shiny silver paint. I can’t tell if the top of the body is rotated, but it looks like it could be the low abs crunching, mid-torso swing joint in these shots. I also love that laser shot effect they printed on the eyes, I can’t wait to get my hands on this guy. Maybe I should start customizing some scary ghosts now…
The figures come with plastic comic book accessories with printed covers. It’s a cute idea, but I’m not sure I’ll use it. Ultimate Spider-Man and Iron Man are also joining the cast. They look like fine characters, I just haven’t happened to read the books, and there are so many Iron Man and Spider-Man out there that I can pass on these iterations that I don’t like. Miles does some pretty impressive poses here, though, so I’ll probably get him and clear out the many other Miles figures I own and just keep this one. Iron Man’s character details are also exquisite, damn.
Adam Warlock looks like a solid update to the original. I guess I never got one, so I needed him. I have the modern one, but maybe I can ditch him now.
Daken is a character I’ve read about over the years and is worth buying. I don’t have the original, but if I did, that old bullseye base would need to be replaced. The faces here are particularly beautiful.
Finally, my favorite news is the inevitable recent repaint of the Banshee figure in classic colors. Man, it’s nice to cross this off the list and get a proper giant monitor done.
