A special feature of the production is intended to explore the personal life of legendary actor James Dean.
Writer-director Guy Guido has acquired the rights to late author William Bast’s 2006 memoir surviving james dean And plans to shoot a biographical film of the same name. After writing the script, Guido has begun meeting with potential producers and is looking for the right cast for key roles.
In his book, Buster describes meeting Dean when he was 19 in the UCLA theater program and wrote that the two became roommates, close friends, and eventually lovers. Buster claims they kept the romance secret to avoid damaging Dean’s career, and while the rising star has been linked to female celebrities, Buster remains hopeful that he and Dean will be living together again soon. Five years after meeting Buster, Dean died in a car accident in 1955 at the age of 24. Two of his iconic films, rebellion without a cause and hugereleased after death.
Guido’s script is set from Buster and Dean’s first meeting to Dean’s death on September 30, 1955, and the film was released on the anniversary of Dean’s death. (Buster died in 2015 at age 84.) The film will focus on how Buster and Dean dealt with their evolving relationship, as well as Buster’s coming to terms with his homosexuality in the 1950s.
“I’ve been a James Dean fan and historian since I was 18, so I knew his ‘friend’ Willie, even though information about their relationship had been scrubbed straight out of the Hollywood machine,” Guido said in a statement the statement said. “As a filmmaker, I love telling the stories of famous people coming of age. As a gay man, I was particularly interested in Buster’s unique story.
Guido focuses on doing justice to the story, making careful casting choices for the characters of Dean, Buster, and Buster’s charming single mother. The filmmaker previously directed the film madonna and the breakfast clubpremiering on Hulu in 2020.
“When it comes to casting and directing a movie about a celebrity, I’m obsessed with getting the look right,” he explains. “I want people to feel as though they’re watching the real James Dean on screen.”

“I want to find the right team to work with,” he continued. “The producers understand the gravity and importance of a story like this, especially in today’s divisive social climate.”
