Things weren’t all that bright and cheery in this episode of Sunny Day.
While the series has remained firmly grounded in the intense thriller category, it has managed to maintain a lighthearted feel through the use of comedic dialogue.
Gone are the days of sharp, witty and well-timed quips on Sunny.
Tidal has turned into a darker, more serious story.
It might be time for viewers to get used to a different kind of show.
Just like life, circumstances and situations can change at any time, and although the story is deeply rooted in science fiction, Sunny manages to portray this successfully.
If Sonny is consistent with one thing, though, it doesn’t answer what exactly happened.
When Ji is ready to be the boss, you can’t suppress the gangsters
Over the past few episodes, we’ve gotten a closer look at Ji and her struggles.
We know she was close to Martha in some way, whether it was intimately or just through work.
Then, her father’s death left a power vacuum in the gang.
Now, we know for sure that she’s been looking for the Dark Manual, or at least parts of it.
Whatever it is, it’s sure to be a game-changer if Japan’s most important organized crime group tries to get its hands on it.
The only thing we know about this rare book is that it allows people to reprogram their home robots.
Thankfully, we haven’t seen any more depictions of home robot owners using their robots for sex. This was a new and disturbing thing that I wasn’t prepared for.
remind me Never watch Westworld.
However, I doubt the gangsters want to get high with walking, talking computers. Not Ji and her cousin, anyway.
The main feature of home robots is that they have built-in protocols that prevent them from harming humans.
But that didn’t stop Hime from throwing a home robot at Senator Ito.
The writers deserve credit for their development of Ji. The character has become as plot critical as Suzie, Sunny or Mixxy.
Mixxy has been hanging out with Suzie and Sunny for too long
Speaking of Japan’s most questionable besties, how about Mixxy?
Is it me, or does she seem to be in love with Suzy?
What other reason could she have to keep returning to the chaos and madness surrounding the Widow?
She basically tells Susie herself that trouble and drama will follow her wherever she goes.
So why is Mixxy hanging out with someone she’s only known for a month?
There’s something going on with this character that wouldn’t be shocking if she were some kind of plant.
She might work for the yakuza, or even work for the company where Masa works, to get his research and creations.
To be honest, Mixxy, played by bumbling Annie, serves no purpose other than to be Suzy’s punching bag.
Until there’s more information about who she is and her backstory, I’m rooting for Sunny.
I don’t trust Mixxy as far as I can put her behind.
It would be nice if Suzy finally made an actual friend, though.
Susie certainly needs a reason to be sunny because she can’t stop being sarcastic
If there’s one thing Suzy doesn’t want to do, it’s make friends.
As mentioned above, she is not Mixxy’s celebrity companion, despite her suspicions.
We also learn about Susie’s past with her former friend Dee.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s the name of a woman or a man, a lover or a friend. Dee makes it clear that what Suzy did to them is too big to forget.
Susie’s downward spiral continues to affect everyone and everything near her.
That being said, Rashida Jones is killing it.
With so many comedy projects under her belt, it’s great to see her flex her acting muscles.
She fully embodies the character and grounds the story with her raw emotional expression.
As for the character of Suzy Sakamoto, she’s harder to digest than Rashida Jones.
Everything that happened seemed to only make her meaner.
We still know very little about her past, but I can’t imagine that she came from a sunny, happy family.
Still, after everything that happened to her, Suzy deserved to win. Or, at least someone she could relate to.
Sadly, Suzy is too caught up in her drama to see that she’s already met the perfect woman for the job.
Sunny manages to answer more questions and make the audience as crazy as the plot
The only character who struggles as much as Susie does is Noriko.
I hope these two women can swallow their pride and be honest with each other.
Like Suzy, Nozi lost a son and grandson, and like Suzy, Nozi didn’t handle it well.
If Grandma would rather hang out in jail than be alone, she’s clearly lonely.
There’s another similarity, because like Susie, Noriko is good at making enemies.
Susie and Noriko need to resolve their differences and move on.
Maybe Sunny can help arrange it since she seems to be Noriko’s best friend.
However, this has to be after Susie figures out what happened to the home robot.
It’s unclear if Sunny’s ability to beat Mixxy was pre-programmed or if it was forced upon her by the gang.
It’s just that if the gang really wanted “Dark Manual” to make it clear that the purpose was to use robots to harm humans, then they’ve already achieved it.
That’s why I don’t think Sonny’s new attitude is the work of the gang.
Hopefully we’ll get some answers in this Apple TV+ show, as Suzy confronts the man who brought her Sonny.
For the love of all things good, please give us viewers some answers as to what this madness is all about.
Especially with only a few episodes left in the first season.
Are Masa and Zen still alive?
Is Sunny the product of Masa’s research?
Will Ji take over the gang?
Is Mixxy trustworthy?
What exactly is the “Dark Manual”?
There are a lot of unanswered questions, and each episode brings more.
That being said, It’s Always Sunny is still an incredible series. It’s a testament to the show to be so invested in this story and its many moving parts.
Sunshine will be one of those series you rewatch after all the twists and turns are revealed so you can go back and catch all the subtle hints.
Regardless, I love this show because of its brilliant writing, incredible visuals, and amazing performances.
Hopefully Sonny will be in a better mood in the next episode.
What do you think the gang did to Sonny?
