Ian McKellen has suggested that The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum may be split into two films, which may come as no surprise.
Warner Bros. seems to be hoping to continue the tradition of stretching out the Lord of the Rings movies a little too long with its next project, The Hunt for Gollum – you may remember that The Hobbit was adapted into a trilogy, though Not fully mature yet. The quote comes from Gandalf himself, Ian McKellen, who recently appeared on ITV’s This Morning and was asked if he would appear in the film.

The actor recently had an accident while performing in a play he was currently involved in, which led to him taking some time off to recuperate and being asked if he would star in the show. “All I know is they called me and said these movies were coming out, basically about Gollum, Andy Serkis, who plays Gollum, was going to direct, there was going to be a script sometime in the new year, and then I was going to Judging whether I want to go back,” McKellen shared, reiterating an earlier comment. He went on to say that he’d love to come back, and when asked if it was just one movie, he shared, “I heard it’s two movies.”

That’s obviously not set in stone yet, and as the script won’t be in McKellen’s hands until next year, things could change quickly. I’m also not entirely sure how the hunt for Gollum could be interesting for two movies, but hey, who knows better than an executive who likes to make money, right?
