If you’ve tried OpenAI or ChatGPT in the past few minutes and received what amounts to a blank stare, you’re not alone. OpenAI is experiencing a “partial outage.”

The company posted that “ChatGPT and the Platform API are experiencing a high error rate.” At 11:53 PDT on August 16, the company wrote: “We are currently investigating a high error rate for the ChatGPT and Platform API. Minutes later , the company said it “continues to investigate this issue.”
About thirty minutes later, the company posted an update saying that “engineers have taken steps to mitigate the increased errors and are monitoring other changes.” All OpenAI and ChatGPT systems are “operational.”
