In a recent interview with The Direct, the creator Robert Kirkman Providing an update on the film and explaining why it’s taking so long, he said: “It’s still in development. We’re still working with Universal. You know, the show is going great. I think the show The movie absolutely has to be perfect.
“So, it takes a lot of time, like getting the pieces to work together and getting everything working properly so that we can make it as good as possible.
“So, it’s been in development for a long time and probably will be in development for even longer.”
He went on to explain that the movie had to offer a different experience than the TV show, saying, “Just because it’s related to the show, it has to offer a different experience, so it has to be true to Invincible in some interesting ways.
“But it has to be its own thing. It has to stand on its own. That’s what we spent a lot of time building. But I think when it finally happens, it’s going to be really cool.
Therefore, after seven years, the “Invincible” movie is still in preparation. It must have been hard for the creative team to figure out what exactly they wanted to do with the film. If there were any behind-the-scenes issues, Kirkman wouldn’t say anything,
Kirkman previously said: “Sometimes movies take a little longer. I think it’s safe to say that if anything, this show has helped that a lot. People are very excited about the potential of Universal’s movies. So, we’re capitalizing on that excitement and trying to move things forward as quickly as possible.
However, none of this is happening anytime soon. As of ten months in, there is still no script. “It’s still in the script development stage,” Kirkman said. “I think once we get the script where it needs to be, I think we’ll be in a good position and be able to move forward fairly quickly after that.
“But all the factors I just discussed are things we’re thinking about: How does this feel new? How does this feel different? How does this feel special? These are very difficult tasks.
“We still need to find a way to rival the animated series while also differentiating ourselves and giving the movie a reason to exist. There’s still a lot of work to be done. But we’re hopeful.
