This movie is adapted from Robert Harris’s The background of the novel is the Vatican Catholic Church. The story spans several days and follows the unexpected death of the pope and the efforts to elect a new pope.
The story revolves around one of the most secret and ancient events in the world – the election of a new pope. Cardinal Lawrence (Fiennes) is tasked with carrying out this secret procedure after the beloved pope dies unexpectedly.

Tucci plays progressive Cardinal Bellini who aims to secure the papacy but faces stiff competition from Cardinal Tremblay of Lithgow. Rossellini plays Sister Agnes, who plays a crucial role in the election of the Pope.
Sergio Castellito (Cardinal Tedesco), Lucian Msamati (Cardinal Adeyemi), Brian F. O’Byrne (O’Malley), and Carlos Dietz Gather the supporting cast.
The film is directed by Edward Berger (Everything is silent on the Western Front) from the script Peter Straughan (Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy).
