There’s a new way to create your own version of artificial intelligence, and it’s easier than ever.
Meta announced the launch of AI Studio to US users.
There are two ways to interact with AI Studio; you can visit ai.meta.com/ai-studio or just use the Instagram app on your phone. On Instagram, all you have to do is open Messages, start a new message, and click “Create AI Chat.”

You’ll then be taken through the character creation wizard, which will let you set your AI character’s name, personality, tone of voice, avatar, and slogan. Meta actually created an 18-page “AI Studio Handbook,” a PDF document that contains instructions on how to get the most out of AI Studio.

The AI character you create is more than just an AI avatar; it’s a true artificial intelligence-driven character, with specific knowledge and personality. You can even set topics you don’t want the AI bot to talk about, or accounts you don’t want it to interact with. Yes, the AI character’s reactions are marked as such, so you can’t have the AI actually replace you and pretend to be you to interact with people.
To demonstrate what this tool can do, Meta has listed some characters created by celebrities and professionals, such as chef Marc Murphy or photographer and videographer Angel Barclay.

There’s a big caveat to all this, though: it’s only available for US users, which means users in places like Europe won’t be able to create their own characters, but it also means they won’t even be able to view AI characters created by others, including The roles listed above. The European Union, in particular, has a specific set of rules when it comes to artificial intelligence, and companies like Meta and Apple have been slow to make progress in any area of artificial intelligence in Europe.
