Open-world auto-battle RPG Illuvium has launched its latest update, patch 1.1.0, which introduces a new gameplay feature called Gauntlet Leviathan mode.
This mode allows players to leverage their NFT collection of Illuvials, weapons, and suits, putting them to the test in a more strategic and dynamic environment.
In addition to this major update, the patch also brings a series of bug fixes, gameplay improvements, and enhancements to the game’s overworld and arena modes.
What is Challenging the Leviathan Model?
Gauntlet Leviathan mode is the latest addition to Illuvium, offering players unique challenges using their own NFTs such as Illuvials, weapons, and suits, with each unit retaining its real-world power level.
Unlike other game modes, this feature prioritizes players’ highest-level assets in the store, providing a tactical advantage to players who invest time and resources into upgrading their collections.
Units the player does not own will appear as standardized level 1, while units owned by the player maintain their level. The store dynamically recalculates available units based on what is already on the player’s board, bench, or armory, meaning that once a unit is deployed or equipped, it is excluded from the store until it is sold or fused. This system adds a layer of strategy, as players must carefully manage their assets to maximize effectiveness in combat.
Additionally, only 1 stage of Illuvials is available in the store, which means higher stage units must be fused. Weapons and suits follow the same mechanics, with the highest-level versions appearing first, while already-used versions are unavailable for purchase.
Other patches 1.1.0 updates
In addition to Gauntlet Leviathan mode, patch 1.1.0 also introduces several improvements to Illuvium’s overworld and arena modes.
For the overworld, the patch significantly adjusts the spawn weighting of Illuvials, ensuring that higher-stage Illuvials are more common and the net expected value per cost is more balanced across regions. Players will also find that the fusion cost of level 5 Illuvials has been increased by 50%, while the healing cost of Resplendent Shards has been reduced to 1000.
Arena Mode introduces random runs in the survival arena, adding a new level of unpredictability. Additionally, players can now face more waves, although the new restrictions have not yet been revealed, and players are encouraged to explore this update for themselves.
