The original Netflix version of Daredevil had a lot of violence, but it sounds like Marvel is upping the ante with the upcoming Disney+ series.
One of the draws of Netflix’s Daredevil was the action and violence, especially since it attempted to be more grounded than most of what the Marvel Cinematic Universe was offering at the time. Marvel Studios is trying to appeal to a wider audience, so Daredevil and other Netflix Marvel shows are trying to be their edgier cousins. But in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television and animation tried to make it clear that Daredevil: Rebirth will be a pretty “brutal” production.

“I’m telling you, some of the most brutal action we’ve ever brought to the screen is going to be in Daredevil: Rebirth, and it’s not a horror movie, but it does have a lot of power in it, and there’s a lot of it that’s at least Say, this is an act that comes from the heart,” Winderbaum said. This is clearly part of a larger conversation related to the next upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ series, Agatha Always, within the context of cinematic universe horror.
“I think it goes back to the filmmakers’ intent,” Winderbaum explains. “The horror on screen in ‘Agatha’ is going to be different than the horror on screen in ‘Zombies,’ it’s going to be different from the horror on screen in ‘Blade’. It’s not going to be the same as the horror on screen in ‘Moon Knight.’ That’s actually It’s not just unique to horror films, there are obviously a lot of different ways to tell a story depending on the filmmaker’s take on the horror cue.
Winderbaum also briefly talked about the Nova series currently in development and the inspiration he draws from it in a separate interview earlier this week.
