Bob Newhart, a beloved stand-up comedian known for his zany, deadpan humor and acclaimed CBS sitcoms, died Thursday morning at the age of 94. The Chicago-born comedian won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year and Best New Artist. Bob Newhart’s 1960 breakthrough record, “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” received a series of short-lived hits. He died at his home in Los Angeles, as announced by his longtime publicist Jerry Digney.
Despite Newhart’s career success, he never won an Emmy Award until 2013, when he was recognized for his guest role as Arthur Jeffries, aka Professor Proton, on CBS’s The Big Bang Theory ) and gained recognition. He is survived by his children, Robert Jr., Timothy, Courtney and Jennifer, and 10 grandchildren.
