As we have repeatedly pointed out, the auction of assets of Diamond Comics distributors took place at 10 a.m. this morning at the office of Raymond James, a financial company that handled the auction.
Since one of the most important days in comic history is less than a mile from where I live, I can’t try to cover it up.
Bankruptcy auctions can be public, which is part of the reason why notices must be issued. However, the procedures vary, and for this process, it is a very large, complex and valuable thing that you have to register as a bidder in advance, as stated in the Diamond Bankruptcy filing. I contacted Raymond James’ media office in advance and they were very good, but there was no guidance either way. So I just showed up this morning.
When I arrived there was another non-birth in the hall, one of Diamond’s creditors would continue to be anonymous. He runs a small comic publishing company that has not yet been found for alternative distributions. He is a native and as curious as I see how everything works, we do go to the 12th floor of the lawsuit. Raymond James has a lovely office with one of the latest coffee machines I’ve ever seen – the iPad controls a faucet that comes out of the counter that can provide cold or cold water and a variety of coffee drinks. magic!
My creditors and I had enough chance to see this coffee machine in action because no one was sure what to do. As we waited, nearly a dozen middle-aged businessmen attended the auction, but I realized that no one was there. Ultimately, we were very polite and told us well that creditors could attend, but required early registration. And journalists are not allowed, which is almost what I expected. But you know I tried it!
I am not allowed to attend now because the auction is going on all day and is expected to enter the second day. Remind you that there are 12 separate business units in the auction that can be sold separately.
