I’m excited to get more power PlayStation 5 later this year. I’ve saved up to buy it when pre-orders open later this month. Oddly enough, admitting this online might lead to people yelling at me.
Before Sony unveiled the long-rumored PS5 Pro earlier this week, I had no idea how much of a splash it would make. I think some people will happily buy a better console, others will reject it, and most won’t even have an opinion. Boy, was I wrong! Turns out the $700 PS5 Pro is the latest online warzone People take sides, share spicy opinions, harass people they disagree with, and generally act wild about every part of the situation. It’s crazy to watch.
Still, I’m glad I went and bought one PS5 Pro later this year. Why? Okay, let’s be honest: I want a better PlayStation, and I’m willing to pay $700 for it.
I know this sounds ridiculous to some. That’s fine. The reality is that every video game console is a crazy luxury item that a lot of people around the world can’t afford, and some are just more luxurious and expensive than others. I admit that $700 is a lot of money to spend on a gaming console, but what Sony is offering at that price seems like a fair deal to me, someone who owns a big, bulky, fancy 4K TV in my basement people.
I want to make sure that when a new game comes out in 2025, I’ll have the most powerful console options to play it. (Assuming the game comes to PS5.) I want higher resolution and frame rates. I wanted a clearer, less blurry image. I want ray traced lighting and shadows. I want to increase the draw distance. I think grand theft auto 6 Look as sharp as possible and run as perfect as possible. I care about those things. Even if you can’t tell the difference or don’t carewhich is fair, I notice these things. I’d spend $700 to get all these improvements.
I already have a gaming computer too!
“But why not just buy a high-end computer?!” I heard some people scream. Well, I already have one. I played a lot of games with it. it’s great. But I work on my computer in my home office every day of the week. The last thing I want to do when I’m done with work is continue sitting at my desk playing games. For me, playing games on a console provides a more comfortable, laid-back experience that doesn’t feel like I’m working.
Yes, I can connect my PC to the TV using an HDMI cable and play games on the couch. I know. I’ve done this before. But sometimes I get tired and I want to crawl into the comfy loveseat and play video games on my big TV. I don’t want to mess with drivers, cables, or multiple transmitters. I just want to keep playing astronomy robot And felt good for about two hours. With the PS5 Pro, I can do that, and the game will look and play better in ways that I appreciate and care about. I think it’s good?
As someone who grew up being too strapped for money to buy a new console, I love buying the latest PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo device because it just feels good. It’s a little treat for myself, a way of saying, “Hey, good job saving money and being responsible. Enjoy this stupid new technology.
I know not everyone can afford a PS5 Pro. I don’t have children. I live in Kansas. My cost of living is very low. So I had savings and “fun money.” Not everyone does this, and if you can’t afford a PS5 Pro, I’m not going to shame you or say you can’t be sad about it. I just explained that I could afford it. It doesn’t put me in trouble or prevent me from paying other bills. I’m a responsible (more or less) adult and I decided I wanted a more powerful console, I’m going to buy it and enjoy it. You can yell at me on Twitter, but I’ll probably block you.
