Huawei’s tri-folding phone, the Mate XT, seems to be pulling off the biggest trick of foldable phones: it looks ordinary (when folded).
In a new teaser posted by Huawei on Weibo, the phone is clearly visible from the back, so completely folded that you might mistake it for any regular smartphone. The phone is also partially shown fully unfolded, and while we can’t see all that gorgeous screen real estate, it does look like a full-size tablet.

Can you tell this is a foldable phone?

Rumor has it that the display will measure 10 inches diagonally when fully unfolded, comparable to the 8.3-inch iPad mini (although there will inevitably be a big difference in aspect ratio, as Huawei certainly won’t be as tall as the 5.3-inch iPad mini) .

Apple events to look forward to in 2024: iPhone 16, Apple Watch 10, and more
Of course, the big question is how thick the Huawei Mate XT will be when folded. From what we can see in the video, it won’t be too bad, but it will definitely be thicker than a regular phone.
Another interesting aspect of the Huawei Mate XT is the timing of its release. Huawei held a launch event in China, which started a few hours after Apple’s iPhone 16 launch event in California.
