first descendant launch with Good character choiceand promised to release more content in the future. The first proper update recently delivered on that promise, with the debut of Ultimate Valby and Luna. While the former is simply the ultimate version of an existing character, the latter is an entirely new character. However, if you don’t want to pay, you’ll need to follow our guide to obtain the materials.

Luna is a support-level character who provides fans for her music. While you can work with her individually on content, she’s more effective when working with a team. I’ve detailed the different options for unlocking her below, along with a breakdown of her skills.
How to Unlock Luna for Free

Luna is “free” for you, but you have to pay for it with your time. Not only do you need to set aside a total of 1,000,000 gold coins for research costs and then wait 24 to 40 hours for them all to be completed, but you also need to collect some specific materials. I’ve put together a list of everything you’ll need so you don’t have to go to the Institute to revisit Anais. Also included are the gold coins and time required to research the materials.

These materials can be found in various areas on the map. The areas where most of them gather include Hagios, Fortresses and Vespers. Remember, if you have the space, you can work on multiple materials at the same time and potentially pull out three of them in the same eight hours.
Once you have all your research information ready, you can execute your final research request. It takes 16 hours and 400,000 gold coins. You can return to Anais at the end of that time to finally unlock Luna.
How much does it cost to unlock Luna quickly?

If you’re willing to spend some real money, it’s possible to bypass all the hard work and time. Luna is one of the most expensive characters, costing 900 Caliberlike Essimo or Kyle. However, there are no currency packs that can be purchased for this specific amount, so you’re better off purchasing the 1000 Caliber (+60 Bonus) pack for $19.99.

If you have a spare Caliber or might want more cosmetic options, there’s also the New Descendant: Exclusive Luna Bundle. This costs 1650 Caliber and also includes the Pool Party Skin cosmetic, the Recorder Chest, and an extra Descendant slot for those who need it.
Luna’s skills
The most important thing to know about Luna is that playing her correctly is like playing a rhythm game. Each skill plays a different song, with notes hovering over the cursor at a different tempo. You’ll use her unique synth gun to fire in time with the beat to properly apply its effects. If you don’t do this, your MP will be reduced a lot.
Passive skills
- Improvisation – When hitting a note with a skill, Luna’s unique inspiration gauge rises. Once the meter is filled, the power-up skill can be used, although it will completely deplete the meter.
Active skills
- Stage Performance – Changes the equipped firearm to her synthetic gun and causes musical notes to appear on the screen. A perfect shot provides a perfect pitch and increases the power of your skills.
- Exciting Moves – Boost the strength of your own abilities and those of nearby allies.
- Relax Action – Restores MP for yourself and nearby allies when a note is pressed
- Cheerful Move – Pressing a note increases her unique inspiration gauge and reduces the cooldown of nearby allies. After filling this slot, activating the first two skills will turn them into enhanced skills, providing enhanced effects.
Compared to other characters like Enzo or Jabber, Luna is not a beginner-friendly support character. She’s probably one of the hardest characters to play right now first descendant. There’s already a lot to manage in the game, so it’s hard to focus on different paces and unique metrics. The amount of MP lost due to a poorly timed shot is just another inexcusable layer on top.

That being said, it’s refreshing to add such a unique style of play. It’s a great feeling to hit a target at the perfect time and keep your team fighting. If you like the idea of supporting characters Hi-Fi Audio SprintLuna is worth watching.
