[Crossposted from our sister site, K-ComicsBeat – Deb’s diary will be updated every morning ET!]
Hi I’m Deb Aoki and if there’s any excuse I’ll be traveling to find comic related stuff. Follow me on my 2-week trip to France, from November 2nd to 18th, to visit the epic Bande Dessinee (Comics) 1964-2024 exhibition at the Center Pompidou in Paris, the Global Webcomics B2B Conference in Mont, Then in Japan to visit the IMART (International Manga Animation Festival and Toshima) conference in Tokyo.
In addition to sharing my day-to-day adventures, I’ll also be sharing some embarrassing things I encountered while traveling, things I bought and ate, and other things I learned through the ups and downs of traveling in France and Japan. Ready? let’s go!
Day 0 – Day 1: SFO – CDG – Paris
Departing SFO on Saturday afternoon (Day 0) and arriving at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport around 9:30 AM on Sunday morning. Managed to get some sleep on the plane (which was awesome), which was good because I needed the energy to deal with the first travel curveball thrown at me: needing to lug 2 suitcases up an escalator that wasn’t working, Because the escalators and elevators from the airport feeder train station are out of service.
France Travel Rule 1: You may need to carry your luggage up stairs. This will be bad.
Sometimes you may need to carry your luggage up a flight or two. It happens when you least expect/want it to happen, such as at a train/metro station or even in a hotel without a lift/elevator. Also, double-decker trains in France? You have to lug your suitcase up the stairs yourself – there is no checked baggage. More on this later.
