By default, you are given a basic skin for your character in Minecraft. While you can easily play through an entire save equipped with the “Steve” skin, you may want to add some flair to your character. Below, you can find out how to change your Minecraft skin and where to download new skins to equip.
Change your Minecraft skin
The process of swapping skins in Minecraft is almost the same as changing your username, which we also covered in a previous guide. However, the process differs between Java Edition and Bedrock Edition. We’ll list below how to change your skin in both versions.
Java version
- Go to Minecraft official website
- Click the “Sign In” button in the upper right corner to log in to your Microsoft account
- After logging in, click the “Account” button in the upper right corner
- Go to Profile and find the Minecraft: Java Edition box
- In the box you will see “Change Skin” highlighted
- Click this button to select a preset model or upload a custom skin file
bedrock edition
- Open the Minecraft app
- Go to the main menu and select the “Locker Room” option
- Choose from any existing skins
Changing skins in any version of Minecraft is that easy. However, if you’re playing the Java Edition, you’ll need to take additional steps, which include downloading files for already-created skins, which can be a bit complicated. Luckily, there are dozens of websites offering thousands of pre-made Minecraft skins for you to download.
However, it is recommended to review these sites thoroughly as you do not want to download anything from untrusted sources. However, once you find a site and skin you like, you can download its archive and upload it to the Minecraft website. Once uploaded, your character will be wearing the skin the next time you log into Minecraft with the same account.
