VTubing continues to grow as an important form of entertainment in the United States. While the exposure of Vtubing is still nowhere near the level seen in Japan and other Asian countries, it has exploded to the point where I can walk into a packed theater in the middle of Brooklyn and listen to fans cheering on these digital idols – which is exactly what it means. is what I did. “Breaking Dimensions” is Hololive’s second large-scale English VTuber concert. Like the first thing that happened last year anime expothis time it was a huge success.
The structure of this concert is not much different from last year. We performed for just under two hours on digital screens with three groups from Hololive English (Myth, Promise and Arrival) taking up most of the main stage, with two smaller groups on each side dedicated to the presentation Models from different angles and close-ups. Singers include Sen CalliopeTakanashi Kiara, Ninomae Ina’nis, Gawr Gura, Watson Amelia, IRyS, Ceres Fauna, Ouro Kronii, Nanashi Mumei, Hakos Baelz, Shiori Novella, Koseki Bijou, Nerissa Ravencroft, Fuwawa and Mococo Abyssgard — whose models are rendered in gorgeous 3D effects for the models and lots of motion tracked dance.

Their last concert was more idol-themed with a more coordinated dance routine, while this one focuses on a wider range of music genres. Each performance comes with background visuals to accompany the songs. I particularly like the second background as it has very New York style skyscrapers and graffiti on some of the buildings. All actors present had the opportunity to sing at least one song, with a lovely little intermission after every two or three songs.

We started with a great performance by the band Advent, followed by a couple of back to back solos with Baelz and Amelia that hit the ground hard. The former practically lit up the stage with their songs keep Calm And Amelia enters the scene with a lovely cover I can I can be delicious! Throughout the concert there were a few covers, interspersed with original music. When the concert ends with a grand performance Break the dimensions A musical with all the talent, preceded by two anime songs. One of them is Mori performing the ending theme she made for the movie Suicide Squad from Another World Japanese cartoons. Another has Gura and Amelia singing a duet Idolthe animation starts with Son of Shinobu.

A theme that runs through all the intermissions is the idea of breaking down dimensions and what that means to people. Some artists have comedic interpretations of this because they want to break out of the screen and surf with everyone. You might say that breaking dimensions also refers to VTubers who use two-dimensional and three-dimensional models to connect with people. Something that resonates with fans is pushing your own limits. It’s about pursuing a better version of yourself that makes you appreciate and be happy. It’s a really good message that I think fans of all ages will resonate with. I look forward to seeing how many dimensions Hololive and other VTuber studios can break through in the future as VTubing becomes more and more popular.
