‘Hold your ground!’: Helldiver 2’s latest MO finally sees Super Earth face an unexpected enemy they can’t blow to smithereens, with PC players making up for the lack of AWOL PSN players

Bad news, soldier! It all looks like a walk in the park for Helldiver 2’s latest Major Order, but at night UK time a new threat emerges that requires a Super Earth to fend off. Just when you thought you’d seen it all, PlayStation Network goes down, leaving most players on the platform unable to power-up their PC brethren.

But don’t worry, Turing needs to be reined in, and those who remain on the front lines look to have taken on the task of doing so, with the enthusiasm you’d expect from a force that’s known for role-playing.

According to PlayStation’s network service status page, the October 1 outage caused some players to experience problems when trying to log into their PSN accounts, launch games and applications, access PlayStation video content, and use the PlayStation Store. The PlayStation Direct service does not appear to be affected.

As of writing, the US version status page has now been updated to say that the issue has been resolved after Ask PlayStation’s Japanese account acknowledged the glitch at around 2am UK time today, although simply visiting status.playstation.com still doesn’t seem to resolve the issue. Based on social media posts, it looks like things are returning to normal for at least some players.

One of the games that suffered the most during the outage (at least in terms of player sentiment) was Helldivers 2, with PC divers panicking as they realized that there were no players who couldn’t play on PlayStation consoles.

Cue a flurry of posts calling on those who stayed to “Hang in there!” and channel their inner Space Marines, with some suggesting that Arrow game guru JOEL was somehow behind giving the subversive take on the game. Unexpected trouble comes. Someone even decided to write the whole thing into the game’s canon, claiming that they and their PS brothers were “captured by robots and taken to Cybertron’s super prison facility.”

Thankfully, Turing appears to have survived some huge bug attacks during the blackout and is still in the hands of divers. In fact, as some players have pointed out, Helldiver 2’s planet liberation mechanic is designed to work as intended regardless of how many players are online, so having fewer people playing the game may not have an impact on Diver’s ability to control Turing Not much of an impact, assuming a large portion of the people still playing the game don’t suddenly go off and attack another planet.

Are you affected by this PSN outage, or maybe you were one of the PC folks last night defending Helldivers’ progress in building that nifty new space station? Let us know below.
