Rumors are flying (the source appears to be DanielRPK on X, who has had mixed results) that the Rey movie is now on hold. Because they still didn’t have a script after all this time, and screenwriter Steven Knight’s handling never got Kathleen Kennedy’s approval.
Make of it what you will…the source seems to be someone who is sometimes right about things and sometimes not so right. But one thing is certain: Films originally scheduled to begin filming in 2024 will not begin filming this year.
If Disney executives have any sense at all – and before you say anything, they seem to have figured it out, given what we know about the production of Inside Out 2, just a few hours ago news broke that Disney had fired them ’s CCO division, the animation studio, brought the world such wonderful flops as “Strange World” and “Wish”. Now former CCO Jennifer Lee says she wants to focus on filmmaking full-time, and she’ll be in the next two Frozen movies…so she still has a job (on paper), but not Then in charge of animation (Lee is basically Disney Animation’s Dave Filoni). Regardless, if Disney had any sense, they would give Rey’s movie the treatment of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy. They have to know how likely it is that a radical feminist director’s film and its sequel will be a huge success. Kennedy may have played her last trump card, with The Acolyte being a complete disaster on Disney+. They actually did Star Wars a disservice by letting her do this project that she loved… Of course, after Raiders of the Lost Ark, which just didn’t go down as the biggest Disney movie flop of all time, Marvel did even worse.

Poor Daisy – she deserves better
