Deadpool and Wolverine director Sean Levy Interviewed by The New York Times about many things about the film, including Henry Cavill to play the Wolverine variant, and how that experience made the actor sick.
Before we get to Cavill, though, the director told the Happy Sad Confused Podcast that he almost included the real-life wolverine animal in the movie, but he couldn’t due to time constraints.
There is a scene in the movie Ryan ReynoldsDeadpool travels across the multiverse trying to find the perfect Wolverine.
“Number Seven is a real wolverine,” Levy said. “We really wanted a real Wolverine, an animal that would fight Deadpool. But we came up with the idea too late to make it.” A convincing digital Wolverine, so if I ever need a sequel, it’s right there in my back pocket.
Levy went on to talk about former Superman actor Henry Cavill, saying the actor got sick from having to smoke Wolverine’s cigars all day on set.
“He lit the cigar and kept it in his mouth the entire day of filming,” the filmmaker said. “I remember hearing the next day that Henry had an upset stomach from inhaling cigar smoke for eight hours straight, but he never wavered.
Levy also spoke about Cavill’s Wolverine cameo in a separate interview with Variety, saying: “If we’re going to talk about him, we have to call him by his real name, Cavill, which is Ryan. Creative.
“When Ryan proposed the word, I knew it was undeniable. He immediately said ‘yes’ because he knew it would be disruptive and interesting.
“It’s also very emotional about him and his work, and now he’s taking the form of a variant of a Marvel hero and playing up to his legacy as a DC hero.”
It’s great to see Cavill play Wolverine. It’s a fun little scene, and while we’ll likely never see Cavill in the role again, at least we get a chance to see what Cavill would be like as Wolverine!
