Helldivers 2’s upcoming patch will bring some pretty powerful buffs to the RS-422 railgun, and Arrowhead has slid the weapon’s damage numbers upwards in an effort to deliver the kind of fun the game’s community has been asking for.
The studio is currently providing annotated snippets of Patch 01.001.007, building on what was shared in last week’s blog post and preparing for the update’s release on September 17th.

Following yesterday’s reveal of plans to beef up the flamethrower, Arrowhead’s latest announcement involves the railgun, a weapon that was incredibly popular, especially early in the game’s lifespan when it was used to take down armored enemies before being Unpopular weapon hit nerfs.
So, what does this update do to it? Well, in a nutshell, it increases damage. Arrowhead writes that the gun’s “sustained damage will increase from 60 to 225, and full overcharge damage will increase from 150% to 250%.”
“We’re launching it again,” developer Niklas Malmborg said in a brief video chat with Arrowhead CCO Johan Pilestedt of the changes to the railgun that appear to be the standard across all these posts, noting its persistent damage numbers. The almost four-fold increase appears to be to make the gun more effective against “very large enemies” in safe mode.

Beyond that, Marlborough confirmed that despite the increased overcharge damage, the time it takes to recharge will remain the same as it currently is. So, it seems like good news for those eager to get their hands on the weapon that Pileist once described in a tweet as a “risk/reward weapon for high-level gaming” designed to “work like a sniper” “The rifle is cracked, but there is a risk of killing the user.” Hopefully this fan can make it live up to that absolute poetry.
