Helldivers 2’s latest patch appears to have accidentally given players the ability to fly, leading to the Arrowhead boss’ only response: via Simpsons meme

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead isn’t shy about mentioning the slew of buffs included in patch 1.001.100, but it seems likely that one unexpected buff has been overlooked. Well, this is more like a bug and it sends players flying. Of course, now that John Piles had seen it all, they begged him to forget what he had done.

Yes, it looks like the shield generator that makes people immune to melee damage might not be the only unexpected feature people can try out or benefit from when taking on the current main order and sampling the latest Warbond.

On the Helldivers 2 subreddit, a user named k_Random appears to have posted the next evolution of the max fall damage avoidance emote phenomenon that took the Helldivers nation by storm earlier this year. Basically, as they say: “Send an emoticon and you can fly now!”

The video they released showed that a diver set off from a bridge, fell from the bridge, and successfully floated horizontally in the air without falling by being locked in an expression animation loop, eventually forming a series of rapid Animation loop. It actually breaks off before they fall, so we don’t get to see how long they successfully flew, but in the 16 seconds or so shown, they were quite far away.

In the comments, you’ll find comments from Arrowhead CCO and well-known Reddit browser Johan Pilestedt, exactly what you’d expect from someone who says, “Wow, that’s cool.” What did he say? Nothing, all we get is a GIF. The iconic character of Homer Simpson slinking back into the bushes, to be exact.

Is he reacting this way because he’s diving back into the ether so he can pretend he doesn’t see the bug as an excuse to keep it in the game? Or did he sneak away and tell his team “Gee, guys, we gave the divers too much power, ground them!”?

All we know so far is that a lot of players are praying it’s the former, with one writing: “Don’t sleep on this Pileist! Create a new game mode and let this mechanic work.” Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani is a big fan of the aforementioned life-saving aerial salute, so it seems possible.

Do you hope that Arrow will allow people to continue to work their way into something that the Wright brothers were proud of? Let us know below!
