Both Microsoft and game developer Ninja Theory have remained silent on the sales performance of Senua’s Sage: Hellblade 2 since its release on May 21. But now, we’re starting to understand how it works.
Circana analyst Matt Piscatella, who often posts interesting snippets of information on Twitter, jumped on the X to answer people asking how Hellblade 2 performed on the May sales chart.
根據Piscatella 的說法,「2024 年5 月,《塞娜的傳奇:地獄之刃II》在美國完整遊戲銷售額(實體+數位共享酒吧)中總體排名第37 位,而在Xbox 系列上排名第21 Bit.”
There are a lot of questions about the game… Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II ranks No. 37 overall in U.S. full-game sales (physical + digital shared bars) in May 2024, while ranking No. 1 on Xbox Series No. 21.

As always, there are a lot of factors to consider, such as Hellblade 2’s release at the end of May, its inclusion in Game Pass, and its lack of physical copies. It’s also worth remembering that Hellblade 2 retails for just $50, which could have a significant impact on its placement on sales charts based on sales as a percentage of total sales.
But when you consider May’s No. 1 title, Ghost of Tsushima, you clearly see Hellblade 2’s dismal numbers. That’s right, the PC port of Sony’s game beat out the Paper Mario: Millennium Door remake to take the top spot on the sales charts in 2020. But keep in mind that Nintendo doesn’t report digital sales, so Paper Mario’s sales are likely much higher.
This means that the 4-year-old PlayStation’s PC port performed better than the brand new version of Microsoft’s first-party version. The PC version of Ghost of Tsushima will also cost $50, just like Hellblade 2.
Obviously Hellblade 2 is aimed at a much smaller audience and probably cost less to make, but it’s still shocking to see such a huge gulf between the two. For further comparison, Ghost of Tsushima attracted 77,000 concurrent players on Steam at launch, while Hellblade 2 didn’t even reach 4,000 players. In fact, Hellblade 2’s player numbers are even worse than Redfall, which was considered a disaster.
Still, perhaps pure sales aren’t the best way to judge Hellblade 2’s success. Piscatella has data ready, saying it ranks 12th in engagement, while Fallout 76 ranks 11th. He provided more details in his reply to others, revealing that the game beat out Star Wars: Last Stand at No. 13, Apex Legends at No. 14, and Forza Horizon 5 at No. 15 bits.
Overall, May was a relatively weak month for sales. Mat Piscatella, a One game (“Injustice: Gods Among Us”)”.
On June 24, Christopher Dring of GameIndustry.biz released a European sales chart, noting that overall sales were down 17% from last May. However, he did note that this was primarily due to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom selling more units in May 2023 than the top 10 total in May 2024. ” is also absent from the sales of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”.
Christopher Dring described May as a “brutal month” in a tweet, confirming that Hellblade 2 not only didn’t appear in the top ten, it didn’t even manage to crack the top 100. Pass games are all in the top 100,” one user said in response to a user asking why Hellblade 2 was in the top 100 after subscribing.
