Yes, Half-Life fans, you have a new reason to believe that the long-awaited third installment is definitely going to happen, and this time, it absolutely will.
Look, I’m sure I don’t need to tell you the history of Half-Life 3, or I guess its lack thereof. You’ve seen the memes, you’ve seen the many times people swear this time will come, only to be disappointed. But this time, maybe it’s different! As discovered in the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, a voice actor who has appeared in games such as Starfield, Valorant, Fallout 76, and more lists the title “Project White Sands” on their resume content, citing Valve as the game’s developer – although any mention of the game has since been made. Of course, once this was discovered, fans were quick to conclude that this was definitely when Half-Life 3 would be released.

Project White Sands may mean nothing to the uninitiated, but Half-Life fans have connected some dots. White Sands is the name of the real-life U.S. Army military testing area in New Mexico (where the first atomic bomb was tested). Where is the famous Black Mesa research facility located in the game? New Mexico! You can see why fans were quick to believe that this was the legendary Half-Life 3, although to be honest, I doubt it was even Half-Life 3.
Earlier this year, Counter-Strike 2 was found to contain files related to a project called Citadel, which appears to be some kind of multiplayer game. The project is apparently the yet-to-be-officially announced Deadlock, Valve’s upcoming hero shooter. But references to “HLX” were also found in the documents.
This one is less clear, although it seems to point to something related to Half-Life. Considering X, this could always be related to Half-Life Alyx, but it’s unclear at the moment. Regardless, it does look like Half-Life is in the works, but I suggest you don’t get your hopes up.
