    Hackers stole nearly 1.7 million credit card numbers

    There seems to be a big new data violation occur every rare week Now. Personal emails, phone numbers, and addresses are the most common data affected by these breaches. But it’s even more concerning when bank account or credit card information falls into the wrong hands.

    Payment gateway provider Slim CD has just disclosed one such serious data breach.

    In the 10-month data breach of Slim CD, nearly 1.7 million credit card accounts, including cardholder names and addresses and card expiration dates, were compromised.

    according to event notification The most recent report filed by the company shows that Slim CD became aware of suspicious activity on its computer systems around June 15, 2024. The report states that unauthorized individuals had access to the system between August 17, 2023, and June 15, 2024.

    in separate Archive Noted with the Maine Attorney General Security WeeklySlim CD revealed that 1,693,000 people were affected by the data breach.

    Mashable notes that the breach is not limited to Maine. Slim CD said of the nearly 1.7 million people affected, only 797 are Maine residents.

    According to Slim CD, the company has begun notifying affected individuals about the leak.

    What to do if you are affected?

    Because this breach clearly involves financial information, affected parties should remain vigilant and monitor their credit reports and pay close attention to their credit card statements for potential unauthorized purchases.

    A free annual credit report is available at: annualcreditreport.com. A free fraud alert can also be added to your credit file for one year, which will alert businesses and require them to take extra steps to verify your identity before making a purchase.
