What’s the hottest thing in Hollywood right now? Godzilla and IP are linked, mainly the first one. Now that the Lizard has battled Kong, the Justice League, and even the Power Rangers, what’s the best way to combine the two? Give him a real challenge, a huge curveball that no one had anticipated before: pit Godzilla against a series of well-known characters from Western literature.

Later this year, writer/artist Tom Scioli and IDW will bring Godzilla Monster Theater to the shelves. The three-issue miniseries pits Godzilla against Sherlock Holmes, Jay Gatsby, HG Wells’ The Time Traveler and…Dracula? Yes, the Prince of Darkness himself. Our basic setting is that it’s 1922, and a big, dramatic party thrown by Jay comes into play. also Well, and lures Godzilla to the scene. After the King of the Monsters does what he does best, Jay teams up with other literary characters to show him what he’s made of, man. How are they going to take him down? Who knows, but it might turn out to be as silly as the whole premise.

“Imagine if Godzilla suddenly showed up in the great American novel,” Scioli told TheWrap. As a fan of the original work Godzilla In the movie, he always wanted to make a comic using the character, so much so that he made a Godzilla graphic novel as a practice. He went on to call it the true comic of his dreams, “a grand, globe-spanning adventure and intimate story of love and heartbreak.” Sholly is also determined to make the most of it: according to him, Godzilla will crush a dance competition during its rampage, and elements such as submarines, horses and speedboats will also come into play, as will Jules Verne Somehow.

Godzilla Monster Theater October begins. Check out the main, mushy cover below, created by Sholly himself.

I wonder what current high school English teachers would think if they saw this.
