Oscar-winning sensation Godzilla minus one Finally released in 4K and Blu-ray with English subtitles in September, it proved to be a huge success for Netflix (and a huge success at the box office too). Now, there’s a critically acclaimed black and white version of the film, perfectly titled Godzilla minus one/minus coloris also heading to streaming, which is particularly good news for fans who missed the show during its brief U.S. run

when subtractive colorThe theatrical release was announced back in January; Godzilla minus one Director, screenwriter, visual effects supervisor and theme fashion plate Takashi Yamakazi shared his enthusiasm for the alternative version in a press release:
“Godzilla minus one/minus color Not just a simple black and white version. Our colorists took the time and effort to complete a very detailed and complex process,” he said. “The black and white image makes Godzilla look very realistic and documentary, which leads to more fear. Even though we’ve already seen Godzilla minus one Many times, we feel that something completely different is here – and it’s scary! So this is not just for those who like Godzilla minus one And for those seeing it for the first time, they should definitely see this black and white version. Especially the scene at the beginning where Godzilla appears at night, it was so terrifying that my knees were shaking!
Regardless of the tone, Godzilla’s first appearance is a jump scare that’s done right, and the fear it inspires is all the more compelling considering that Godzilla gets bigger and bigger as the movie progresses. The black-and-white version is also inevitably reminiscent of Honda Inoshiro’s 1954 original, a film with which minus one More so than many other films in the now massive Godzilla franchise. In other words, it’s cool subtractive color exists, and what’s even cooler is that it will soon be embraced by American fans.
