On April 3, 2025, professionals from around the world will gather to attend Global Conference Industry Day (GMID). This annual event highlights the economic and social impact of meetings, meetings and business gatherings, especially as political uncertainty rises.
The Events Industry Council estimates the value of the global business event industry to $1.6 trillion.
In 2024, more than $126 billion in conferences and events-related travel spending was held in the U.S., which supported nearly 620,000 U.S. jobs, according to the American Travel Association.
The roots of GMID date back to the mid-1990s, when some of the Greater Edmonton chapters of conference professionals organized the Conference Planners’ Day. The initiative has grown into a national conference industry day across Canada. In 2015, the Conference Average Business and Events Industry Council established North American Conference Industry Day. The following year, they started Global Conference Industry Day as an international event.
Today, the GMID campaign is concentrated at the American Travel Association conference, which means “an industry-wide alliance designed to showcase the undeniable value that business conferences, trade shows, reward travel, exhibitions, conferences and conventions bring to people, businesses and communities.” The human body will turn satellites as “Global Advocacy Day, emphasizing the strong impact of conferences, trade shows, conferences and events on people, businesses and communities.”
