The remaster shows the evolution of Sorachi’s art style
In early December 2003, the cheeky mix of science fiction, historical fiction, and comedy hit the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump exist Sorachi Hideakicomics Gintama. Sakata Gintoki’s misadventures take place in a reimagined Meiji Restoration Japan, where aliens arrive on “black ships” and the island nation opens up to the rest of the world. Now, just over 20 years after the series’ debut, Sorachi has remade Gintoki’s debut in preparation for Gintoki. Gintama 20th anniversary exhibition.

“20th Anniversary” details Gintama Exhibition – Twenty Years Together” is unveiled today!A must-see teaser visual for fans has also been released, featuring Sakata Gintoki’s unforgettable first appearance scene in the first lesson. Sorachi Hideaki 20 years later!
Event dates: December 14, 2024 (Saturday) – January 17, 2025 (Friday) ※ Closed on January 1 (Wednesday, holiday)
Location: Ikebukuro Sunshine City Exhibition Hall A, 4th Floor, World Import Mall Building
Sorachi redrawn Gintoki’s appearance in the current style, added more shading, and slightly reorganized the page and panel layout. He also changed some of the text so the redrawn pages could serve as publicity for the exhibition. So when comparing the pages that appear in the first volume Gintama In new titles, we can see the development of the creator’s artistic style, as well as the additional time that may have been invested in the new version.
