The long-awaited sequel to Ghost of Tsushima has finally been released on PS5 in a gorgeous new trailer released by Sony’s State of Play. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a specific release date – just a vague release window of 2025.
The story of Yotei Ghost takes place around Mount Yotei in 1603. It features a new female protagonist named Atso and hints that the player has a wolf companion. Sucker Punch further hinted at this in an official blog post on the PlayStation Blog, when they discussed Atsu’s journey and “the people (and animals) she’ll meet along the way.”
“To create something fresh yet familiar, we looked beyond Jin Sakai’s story and Tsushima and instead turned our attention to the idea of ghosts,” said Andrew Goldfar, Communications Manager at Sucker Punch. “With Sucker Punch, we love origin stories, and we wanted to explore what it means to have a new hero wearing a ghost mask and unveil a new legend. Which brings us to Sucker Punch: A New Protagonist, a new story is waiting to unfold and a new region of Japan is waiting to be explored.”
Mount Yotei sits in the heart of Ezo Island, a part of Japan now known as Hokkaido.
“In 1603, this region was outside Japanese rule and was filled with vast grasslands, snow-covered tundra, and unexpected dangers. This was a far cry from the organized samurai clans that lived on Tsushima, which we An original story that can’t wait to be told, says Goldfarb.
“This is also the first Sucker Punch game to be built exclusively for PlayStation 5, and we’re excited to build on the visual foundation we established in Ghost of Tsushima to make the world feel even more real. We have huge sight lines, Allowing you to see distant environments, new skies, twinkling stars and auroras, more believable movement of wind through grass and vegetation, and more improvements we’ll be sharing in the future as well. Gives us the opportunity to introduce new mechanics, gameplay improvements, and even new weapons.”
