talk Hibi Gibbsthe artist said:
“This is the first book I’ve ever made that I’m going to give to my son, which is really magical to me. Writing for kids was never something I expected to do or enjoy, but when you get into this mindset and really understanding the impact you can have on a child, it honestly brings me to tears.
Criswell mentioned that the genesis of the book actually came from personal experience:
“Hibi Gibbs I was inspired by my experience working as a night janitor at a Montessori school – I was down on my luck and looking for anything to push my life in the right direction. Dreaming about a hidden treasure beneath the school kept me cleaning in the hope of finding a magical solution to all my problems. While there were no riches beyond imagination, I did find my imagination and this story blossomed from that experience. It turns out that the magic weapon I finally found was not what I was looking for, but what I needed. After all these years, now I can share the treasure I found with everyone.
