    Get out the tissues, there’s a new movie from the creators of one of Crunchyroll’s most touching anime series

    Creator of the beloved anime series Kind are reuniting for a brand new movie that just has a release date.

    “Fureru” is the latest work from the “Super Peace Busters” creative team, which consists of writer Mari Okada, director Ryuyuki Nagai and artist Ayasu Tanaka. The trio team up for the first time on Toradora! animation, then turned to arguably their most famous work – Anohana, an animated series about a group of friends who were shattered by the loss of a loved one during their childhoods. It’s a true tear-jerker and you’ll often find it listed as one of the saddest anime you can watch.

    They followed it up with another bittersweet animation, 2015’s Hymn of the Heart, and their most recent film, Her Blue Sky. Fureru’s first trailer was released late last year, largely using clips from their three previous projects to build hype for what’s to come, and potentially set the stage for the type of emotional rollercoaster we’ll be experiencing.

    Previously expected to be released in the fall of 2024, it has now been confirmed that “Fureru” will be released in Japanese theaters on October 4, 2024. message. As Crunchyroll explains, Fureru is a coming-of-age film set in the Shinjuku area of ​​Tokyo, following three childhood friends who discover a hedgehog-like creature with magical powers, forcing them to explore their bond with each other. . The new trailer also features a clip from the anime’s theme song, Monotone, composed by Yoasobi, the creator of Oshi No Ko’s popular opening idol.

    While the details are a little basic, the premise of “Fureru” sounds like it’ll be perfect for Anohana fans. That cult classic also has a magical MacGuffin, in the case of “Anohana” (spoiler alert) It is the ghost of the protagonist’s dead friend Menma, who has not yet traveled to the afterlife.

    When her childhood friend group is torn apart by the trauma of their early experiences, Menma reappears and demands that they reunite to fulfill her final wish, healing their wounds and bringing them back together in the process.

    If this brief description is enough to get your blood boiling, then oh boy – are you in for an emotional journey? “Anohana” is a beautiful and moving story about grief, love, loss, and finding the strength to move on after something happens that shatters your life in half. It also has an incredible opening, with a song that perfectly captures the wistful, sad yet hopeful and uplifting feeling of the animation.
