Thanks to Amazon’s Big Deal Days sale, fans of the classic Superman films starring Christopher Reeve can add 4K Blu-ray versions of all four movies to their bookshelves for one low price. The Superman 5 Movie Collection: 1978-1987 is only $65 (originally $135). In addition to the 4K Blu-ray discs, the set also comes with standard 1080p Blu-ray versions of each movie. This matches the price Amazon offered during Prime Day in July. This paired Big Deal Days promotion is expected to end with the sale (October 9 at 11:59 PM PT).
Interestingly, this collection also includes the Richard Donner Cut of Superman II, which most fans consider to be an advanced version of the sequel. There’s a long story as to why the Superman sequel had two cuts – behind-the-scenes creative conflicts and budget issues were to blame – but Donner’s version adds more substance to the overall story. While the rest of the franchise hasn’t aged that well, these are still classic Superman movies, and Reeve is effortlessly charming in all of them.
If Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow is a little too optimistic for your superhero tastes, you can also check out some of the Batman Blu-rays for sale. Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy has been discounted from $71 to $34, which is a very good price for both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. These are also 4K cuts of the film, so you can watch Christian Bale’s elbow-to-elbow martial arts in Ultra HD, and special features on each disc give you a fascinating glimpse into the Caped Crusader’s psyche.
2022’s “The Batman” starring Rob Pattinson is also on sale, with the 4K Blu-ray discounted from $34 to $10. Directed by Matt Reeves, this is easily the most grounded Batman movie to date, reimagining the challenges of Gotham’s vigilantes as they navigate civic corruption and mob warfare in their hunt for the Riddler. Finally, you can purchase the Joker for $11.
